Dream records what you hear on your phone, turns it into text, and hands it to the AI agent Dream hosts for you. This page says what Dream collects, where it goes, who can see it, and how to delete it. Dream is made by Dream Technology, Inc. ("we").
What Dream collects
- Audio. While recording is on, the Dream app on your phone records continuously and uploads the audio to our servers, which turn it into text and then delete it. We don't keep your audio.
- Transcripts. We turn the speech in the audio into text, with the time each line was said.
- Summaries and screenshots made by earlier versions of Dream (Dream for Mac took screenshots; Dream no longer does) are being deleted; Dream no longer makes either.
- Device state: your phones' names, platform and model, and whether they are recording.
- Account: your name, email and time zone, and the Lock Screen look you pick. Signing in is handled by Amazon Cognito, on AWS: it keeps your email and the Apple or Google account you sign in with, or your password, which goes from the app to Cognito and never to Dream's servers.
- The waitlist: Dream is invite-only for now. If you sign in without an invite code, we keep your email, your name and when you tried, so we can tell you when there's room. Your invite codes, and which of them were used, are kept with your account.
- Your hosted agent: a computer of its own runs it, on a model Dream provides through OpenAI, or on your own Claude or ChatGPT account if you link one. That computer's own disk holds its sign-ins (a Claude or ChatGPT account you link, and the sites its browser is signed in to) and the files it makes. We keep your chat with it: what you type and attach, your pings (which carry what you said since the last one), and what it sends you, with its files. We never keep the passwords you type for it, or what its browser shows.
Other people's voices
Dream hears everyone near you, not just you. Laws about recording conversations differ by place, and some require everyone's consent. Use Dream where it's allowed, and tell people when it matters.
Where it's stored and processed
- Everything is stored on servers we run on Amazon Web Services (AWS), in Oregon: transcripts and account data in a Postgres database, the photos and files you and your agent send each other in an S3 storage bucket. Connections to Dream use HTTPS. The files your agent sends you are at long links on files.dream.new that can't be guessed: anyone who has a link can open that file, so share one only with someone who should see it.
- Everything we store is encrypted at rest by AWS (database storage encryption and S3 server-side encryption), and we never look. Our servers read your data only to serve you, your devices and your agent, and to process it as described below; they can read it, so that transcription, search and your agent work while your phone is off.
- A hosted agent's computer keeps its disk on encrypted AWS storage (not encrypted separately by Dream), deleted with your account. What its browser shows, the sign-in code you paste and the passwords you type for it pass through our servers to it and aren't kept. A password you type is typed into the field its browser has open; the agent's model never sees it. On an account you link, it works under that Anthropic or OpenAI account and its terms.
- Dream uses OpenAI as a processor, through its API, for two things: turning speech into text, and running your agent's model unless you link your own account (OpenAI doesn't train its models on API data by default).
- Speech-to-text is processed by OpenAI. A voice detector on our servers picks out the speech, and only the speech is sent to OpenAI, a line at a time, to be turned into text; silence and background sound aren't sent. Once the speech is text, we delete the recording.
- Your agent's model runs on OpenAI's servers through Dream, or on Anthropic's or OpenAI's under the account you link: what it reads of your day through Dream goes there, as with any agent you use.
- By signing in you agree to this: the audio of speech goes to OpenAI to become text; what your agent reads and what you type go to OpenAI, or to Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI (ChatGPT) under the account you link.
- What your agent is doing and its answer show in the Live Activity on your phone. The Dream app updates it, and so does Dream's server, through Apple's push service, with a token your phone gives it; each update carries only the agent's short status. Dream sends no other push notifications; the phone's own alerts (recording stopped) are made on the phone.
Who can see it
- You.
- Your agent. It reads only your own data, through Dream's tools, with a key of its own; removing its computer cuts it off.
- Your chat with your agent and its screen: only you, signed in to Dream, and anyone you give one of its files' links. People who run Dream's servers can reach its storage, as with the rest of your data.
- We look at your data only to keep Dream running, to fix a problem you ask us about, or when the law requires it.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't show ads.
- We don't use third-party analytics or trackers.
- We don't train AI models on your data.
Deleting your data
- To delete your transcripts but keep your account, email ryland@pingdream.com from your account's address; that also deletes the audio and screenshots earlier versions of Dream kept.
- Delete account (Settings) deletes your account and your sign-in at Cognito, your devices and the data in it (your chat and its files included, and any audio earlier versions of Dream kept), and your agent's computer and storage.
- To come off the waitlist, email ryland@pingdream.com from that address.
- We keep your data until you delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update this page and its date. For a change that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email first.
